Encode Justice New York is excited to announce that they are hosting a full day, in-person hackathon in June 2023. Focusing on Algorithmic Justice, the hackathon will ask participants to create a research project that outlines, highlights, and suggests solutions to biases in Artificial Intelligence.
This hackathon will provide educational workshops, networking opportunities and a collaborative environment. This event is open to all high school students ages 14-18 and there is no need for prior experience in Algorithmic Justice research. There will be chances to win prizes!
Encode Justice's movement spans over 400 high school and college students across 40+ U.S. states and 30+ countries, as the first and largest network of youth in AI ethics. Together, we discuss, share resources and meet with legislators to spread awareness about the devastating impacts of many AI implementations. The New York Chapter recently ran two successful in-person events/workshops with organizations such as the Justice Education Project, as well as published a highly fruitful social media campaign, with informational videos on the way. Encode Justice has also been highlighted on Teen Vogue and CNN. In the past we have worked with Dear Asian Youth, the Justice Education Project, NYCLU, and many more.
